Welcome Message

Welcome to the Sports Medicine Association Singapore (SMAS) and our annual symposium!  This year, the SMAS aims to build upon the successes of previous years by bringing together medical and allied health care professionals, members of the public and individuals from elite sport and academia to discuss Metabolic and Endocrine Conditions in Sport.

With the Prime Minister of Singapore, Mr Lee Hsien Loong, delivering an inspirational speech at the 2017 National Day Parade, where he outlined the “fight against diabetes”, we felt it was apt to deal with this and other conditions that have a potential impact on sporting performance.  We will also be considering how remaining physical active has a positive impact on these conditions.  The main one-day symposium will draw upon the depth and breadth of knowledge that we have here in Singapore and well as from abroad; speakers will have backgrounds in professional sport, clinical research and policy development.

In addition to the program on the main day, the SMAS have joined with the Alexandra Academy For Clinical and Emergency Sonography (AACES) to provide a pre-symposium training day on Musculoskeletal Ultrasound.  Experienced Radiologists and Sports Physicians will take delegates through the essentials ultrasound imaging and upper and lower limb musculoskeletal sonography.

Both parts of this year’s event promise to be a high quality learning experience that will positively impact on your understanding and practice.

We look forward to seeing you there!

Yours sincerely

Dr Dinesh Sirisena
